West seeking to militarise southeast Asia

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the US was “militarizing” Southeast Asia to contain Moscow’s and Beijing’s interests, setting the stage for a confrontation between Russia and Western leaders at the G20 summit in Bali.

Lavrov made the remarks on Sunday at Phnom Penh’s airport after attending the East Asia Summit in Cambodia — and before flying to Bali for the G20 summit where China’s leader Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden will meet.
